Hong Kong eco-jewellery designer, Jeanine Hsu, delves into her Asian heritage and philosophies as the inspiration for niin’s new Autumn Winter 2015 collection, Yin; debuting at The Cat Street Gallery, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong with a VIP Launch on Thursday 29th October 2015 and Public Exhibition on Friday 30th October 2015.
The Yin Collection explores the journey we take within ourselves in our pursuit of balance and a mindful existence. Stepping-stone motifs and cage cut-outs represent the pathways we travel down throughout our lives and the gateways we step through, always seeking the promise of discovery. These designs cradle the symbols and ideas of ancient Asiatic philosophy, celebrating the beauty of contrast and capturing the delicate equilibrium of nature, body, and spirit.
Inspired by the yin energies of flowing water, the earth, the moon and female chi, traditional jade carved shapes are reimagined with Tiger Kamagong wood, green aventurine, brass, grey penshell and mother of pearl, creating emblems of protection, strength, and courage for a modern world.
“The transition of moving into motherhood certainly had an impact on the elements of this collection,” said niin Founder and Creative Director, Jeanine Hsu, “I suppose every mother goes through these thoughts of who we are, or we are becoming, what type of beliefs we want to pass down, and what kind of world we would like to bring our children up in,”
“Reflecting on my Asian roots seemed particularly poignant, and exploring how I could interpret this reflection and journey through my designs, came out through the dynamic graphic elements and materials I wanted to incorporate in the collection,” Hsu said.
Maintaining a strong link to her environmental design ethos, Hsu sourced a dark Tiger Kamagong wood otherwise known as “iron wood” as the statement wood for this collection, and has partnered this with a dark green-grey penshell and cracked mother of pearl, creating a strong contrast against the brass and feature stones of green aventurine and jade.
With must-have statement pieces for every modern woman’s wardrobe, the Yin Collection features 18 exciting new designs including niin’s feature clutch, collier necklace, pendant necklaces, earrings, and more.
Collaborating with The Stalk Room, the Yin Collection will be launched at The Cat Street Gallery, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong on Thursday 29th October for VIPs and Press, followed by a public viewing on Friday 30th October.
The Yin Collection Launch is proudly sponsored by Dragon-i, Raiz The Bar, Thomas Henry, Green Vitamin, Ca'del Bosco, The Stalk Room, Aicher Artisanal Foods, Ecozine, and Sassy Hong Kong
